Assembly Step 3
Flexible Crimping
What products are used in this assembly step?
Core X Applicator and Core X Cassette
TE Connectivity DIN 72036 compliant Terminals and Connectors
Connectors with Automation Rib for process stable robotic handling
What role do the products play in the assembly cell?
The use of the Core X applicator and cassette system in conjunction with the connector housings and contacts suitable for automated processing enables fast, flexible and reliable automated processes without process interruptions while requiring minimal space.
Change-over of the crimping tools: Change-over of crimping tools (applicator) usually means an interruption of the production process due to setup and adjustment work
Suitability of contacts and connectors for automatic assembly processes (block loading): Connector housings and contacts must meet certain specifications in order to be able to carry out automated assembly processes (block loading) reliably and at high speed.
Suitability of connector housings for robotic handling: Connectors must be able to be gripped by gripper systems in such a way that an exact position of the connectors in the grippers can be ensured and a change in position in the gripper system associated with a process disruption is reliably avoided.
Core X Applicator and Cassette: The Core X Applicator in combination with the Core X Cassette system enables quick switching between different contact systems in a crimp press without interrupting the production process. This allows any number of different contacts to be processed with just two crimp presses in one production cell. This also supports short changeover times when switching to a different wire harness with different contact systems.
Compliance with standards and requirements for automated wiring harness production: The connector housings and contact systems used comply with the specifications of DIN72036 and other standards available on the market to support suitability for automated manufacturing processes in wiring harness production.
Process-reliable robotic gripping of connectors: On 2 of the 4 connectors used, the connector geometries (automation rib) developed within the framework of the Next2OEM project are already being used for safe positioning, gripping and handling of the connectors while at the same time standardizing the gripper geometry.
