Flat ribbon cable assembly for an early adopter

From the Status Quo…

Each ribbon cable receives a connector at one or both ends, which is attached using insulation displacement technology. Currently, a worker places the cut cables into a device and manually attaches the connectors. This repetitive and monotonous task is very unattractive for employees.

…to the automated solution

To optimize this process, we have developed an automated assembly cell for ribbon cables. The connectors are separated and positioned on the fixture by the robot. The ribbon cable is picked up by a suction gripper and inserted into the fixture. Thanks to the integrated turning station, cables with connectors facing different directions can also be assembled without the need for additional retooling.

This IntRAC operates in a 3-shift system and can process eight different types of cables. As a result, workers no longer have to perform this arduous task and can focus on more challenging assignments.
